The Polish Air Force in Lincolnshire

This book records the history of the Polish Air Force which was based in Lincolnshire between 1940 and 1947, and was the first new work on the Polish Air Force to be published in the UK for almost 20 years.

It describes the formation and organization of the Polish Air Force in Great Britain, and also Polish Air Force uniforms, rank structure, rank badges and flying badges.

For the first time in any publication the confusion that has arisen over the use of RAF style uniforms and rank badges is resolved.

The badge of each Squadron is shown, together with details of other Polish units which served in Lincolnshire, including the Polish Resettlement Corps.

Detailed entries list dates when Squadrons were stationed at particular airfields in the county, and list commanding officers, aircraft types and codes, together with general notes about each unit.

Research for the book drew on many unpublished sources and official records.

As well as adding to the available material on the history of aviation in Lincolnshire, the book provides a valuable source of detail on the organization of what was the largest allied air force after the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the United States Army Air Force (USAAF).
